What Should I Do If I Have A Trauma Involving My Teeth Or Mouth?
If the patient experiences trauma to the mouth- including a tooth that was knocked out- then the office should be called or contact the doctor on call.
What Should I Do If My Forsus Breaks, Herbst Breaks, Or My Expander Comes Loose?
If any of the above events happen, then the office or the doctor on call should be contacted.
What Should I Do If I Have A Loose Or Broken Bite Plan, Or Lower Lingual Arch Bar?
Unless this appliance is causing discomfort, the this is not considered an emergency. If the patient is experiencing discomfort then he or she should call during regular office hours to schedule an appointment.
What Should I Do If A Bite Turbo Falls Off?
If the bite turbo falls off, this is not considered an emergency. Patients will be able to bite normally and it will be replaced at the next scheduled appointment.
What Should I Do If A Bracket Or Band Comes Loose?
Unless the loose bracket is causing pain, this is not considered an emergency. If it is causing pain or discomfort, the patient should call the office to schedule an appointment to replace anything that is loose. It is important to remember that repeated broken brackets could increase treatment time.
What Should I Do If A Wire Comes Loose?
If a wire comes loose then the patient should attempt to replace the wire into the bracket. This can usually be accomplished using tweezers. If this isn’t possible, then the patient should clip the wire behind the last tooth it is securely fastened to. If the wire is poking into the patient’s gum or cheeks, then he or she should use a pencil eraser to push down the wire. If this isn’t possible then cover the wire with wax and call the office during regular office hours to schedule an appointment.
What Should I Do If A Color Tie Comes Off?
This will be replaced at the patient’s next scheduled appointment and should not affect the patient’s progress.
What Should I Do If I Lose My Retainer?
Do not wait longer than a week because the patient’s teeth may shift out of alignment. If this happens, the patient should call to schedule an appointment to have a new retainer made.
What Can I Take Or Do For Any Soreness That I Am Experiencing?
While it is normal to experience some soreness during treatment, we recommend warm salt water held in the mouth as a way to reduce this soreness. Patient’s may also choose an analgesic of their choice.
